Rededication of Basra Memorial Wall 11.03.10
A special service took place at the National Memorial Arboretum on 11.03.2010 to rededicate the Basra Memorial Wall,the monument to all UK forces and coalition personnel who lost their lives on operations in Iraq from 2003-2009.The memorial was originally built in Iraq but in 2009 it was taken down and has now been rebuilt at the Arboretum.The service was attended by the Duke of Gloucester,Prime Minister Gordon Brown plus government opposition leaders and military personnel.The memorial originally stood outside the Headquarters of Multi- National Division ( South East ) in Basra and was constructed in 2006 by members of 37 Armoured Engineering Squadron.The memorial is hung with brass plaques listing the names of each life lost during Operation Telic,the name given to the UK operations in Iraq.The wall also contains a central memorial plaque which was dedicated by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen at a national service of commemoration for Iraq 2003-2009 in St Pauls Cathedral.
